Varsity Football Game: RHS @ Nimitz Joy and Ralph Ellis Stadium

Our 4th football game performance will be an away game on a Thursday night. This will be the first time the GEB will be in full marching uniforms! Students will need to bring their compression shirts, GEB shorts, and long black socks to wear with the black MTX marching shoes.

Remember: Full uniform means no jewelry, and only natural hair color tones allowed. Any visible piercings will need to be removed and/or replaced with clear studs if necessary. No finger rings, watches, bracelets, etc. will be permitted while in marching uniform. Please make plans now so that this is not a surprise on game day.

Parents: we would love to have you in the stands cheering on the GEB as we add to our show each week!

Friday, September 24

State-wide Eligibility Check

Even though we are on a 9 week grading period, UIL mandates that all Texas school districts do an eligibility check at the end of the first 6 weeks of the school year. Students must be passing all (non AP) classes with a minimum grade of 70 in order to be eligible for the competition marching show. The Official Eligibility Report takes whatever grade you have in Focus at 4:20 pm on Friday.

Saturday, September 25

March-A-Thon 5k

We march through the neighborhood collecting the last bit of donations along the route and fulfilling our pledges for corporate sponsorships, individual donations, and home concerts. We have a great time marching and playing out in the community that supports us!

Good news! If you have not made your personal $250 goal, the deadline for individual donations is this Friday! Remember that business sponsorships are now closed.

Student attire for the March-A-Thon this Saturday will be Summer Uniform–except no Black MTX Marching Shoes. Students should wear their own marching rehearsal tennis shoes for the March-A-Thon. We want to save the wear and tear on the marching shoes as they are designed for turf, not concrete.

Plan to arrive at the band hall early Saturday morning in order to start at 8:00am. We will be done by 1:00pm.

Looking Ahead…

Friday, October 1

JH Night at the Varsity Football Game

Junior High Night is back! Our 8th grade band friends from West and Westwood will join us for Pre-Game, 1st half in the stands, and halftime performance on the field. This is a great opportunity to give the younger band members a preview of all the cool things that lie ahead for them in HS Band!

Saturday, October 2

Plano East Marching Invitational

The GEB is returning to marching contests this year! We kick-off the competition season in Plano at Kimbrough Stadium. This is a prelims/finals event, so we should anticipate marching twice this day. Your band fees cover your meals throughout the day, because we will start in the morning at RHS with a rehearsal/run-through before loading the buses to march in prelims. Then we will wait for prelims results and announcement of finals performance time, and hopefully we will get to perform under the lights at night! Watch your email inbox for the full itinerary coming soon.

Monday, October 11

Special Marching Band Rehearsal – 8:30-11:30am

The weekend before UIL Region 20 Marching Contest, there is no school on Friday and Monday. In addition, on the day of UIL, there will be a PSAT administration on campus that includes many band students. Therefore, we can’t rehearse Wednesday morning before the test. Because of these rehearsal constraints, we have a special morning marching rehearsal on Monday, October 11. There is no school this day, but this rehearsal is an integral part of our success at UIL.

Note: This is not a change to the original published calendar from last May. I simply want to draw your attention to this date because of the circumstances surrounding it.
