About Us

Since its establishment in 1943, the Richardson High School Band has been one of the most storied and high achieving high school band programs in the country. The Richardson High School Wind Symphony is a nationally recognized concert ensemble having been a featured performer at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic (1964, 1981), named TMEA 5A Honor Band (1977, 1983) and been named a National Winner and/or Commended Winner by the Foundation for Music Education in the Mark of Excellence/National Wind Band Honors Project (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020). The Richardson High School Band has been awarded the coveted Sudler Flag of Honor by the Sousa Foundation and is listed in the Foundation’s Historic Roll of Honor. In 2019, the band program was recognized at the 73rd International Band and Orchestra Clinic by the National Band Association as a National Winner of the Programs of Excellence Blue Ribbon Award.

The band is under the direction of Mr. Christopher Bronson,  Mr. David Schmuck, Mr. Ryan Reyna and Mr. Kyle Foster. The Percussion Department is under the direction of Mr. Roland Muzquiz. The Guard is under the direction of Mr. Jake Mooney. The Richardson Area Band Cluster includes Richardson West Jr. High School and Westwood Jr. High School.

The Richardson High School Band program is divided into several groups: Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Drumline, Color Guard and Winter Guard. You can read more about these groups by selecting them from the menu.

In the Fall, all of the various parts of the Richardson Band combine to create the Richardson High School “Golden Eagle Marching Band“. The band performs at all varsity football games, several marching contests and various community events.

Each Spring, the band then turns the focus towards advancing as many members as possible to Texas All-Region, All-Area, and All-State bands, participating in concerto and ensemble contests, and UIL concert and sight-reading performances. An annual Spring Trip takes place followed by auditions for the next year, culminating with an end-of-the-year Band Banquet to celebrate the year’s achievements and recognize outstanding band members and graduating seniors.
