This Week’s Rehearsals

Due to teacher inservice, this week’s rehearsal schedule is a bit irregular. This is not a change from what was originally published. I just want to draw your attention to it. 

Monday: 7:30am-4:00pm

Tuesday: OFF

Wednesday: 7:30am-4:00pm

Thursday: 5:00pm-7:30pm

Friday: 7:30am-4:00pm

  • GEB End of Camp Social @ 6:30-8:30pm in the MAC

Saturday: 7:30-11:30am 

  • GEB New Parent Orientation @ 10:15am in the Band Hall
  • Fall Premiere Performance @ 11:00am in the RHS Auditorium

RHS ‘Walk Your Schedule’

Many of you have reached out in regards to the RHS ‘Walk Your Schedule’ event organized by our principal, Mr. Choat. We have coordinated so that all band students can attend the full GEB rehearsal on Thursday evening. Any band students/parents who want to Walk Your Schedule should show up to the 4pm meeting with Mr. Choat. He has assured me that the student portion of this event will be approximately 10 minutes. Parents can then stay for the rest of the informational meeting while students walk their schedule. This should allow all GEB members to get to the band hall by 4:30pm to get their instrument and water jug in order to make it to rehearsal by 5:00pm. 

Technically, the 4pm meeting with Mr. Choat is for 9th graders with last names A-L. However, he has assured me that the presentation is exactly the same for all classes. The different time slots are just an effort to manage the amount of people and foot traffic.

GEB End of Camp Social

This Friday, August 13 we have reserved the MAC for some fun for all GEB members! You have been working so hard during Summer Marching Camp, and now it’s time to celebrate with some games, pizza, and dessert! The RABC is providing food for all GEB members who wish to attend. We have the MAC from 6:30-8:30pm. Feel free to bring a frisbee, spike ball, or other games…or just bring yourself and hangout with your band and color guard friends.

This Wednesday during camp, we’ll get a count of who all is coming, so we know how much food to order.

GEB New Parent Orientation

The RABC will host an optional parent meeting for our 9th & 10th grade parents at 10:15am on Saturday, August 14. Especially since we did not have a full marching season last year, this would be a great opportunity to learn about the overall flow of the year and to ask questions of some returning parents who know what it’s like to be a part of the GEB for the first time. After the meeting, everyone will walk over to the auditorium together for the Fall Premiere Performance!

Fall Premiere Performance

This is our first parent performance of the year! We start at 11:00am in the RHS Auditorium. This is a great time to pick up some spirit wear and to get a preview of the sounds of the marching season. GEB students have been hard at work since late July, and we’d love a packed house to show off all we’ve learned! Student attire will be Elemental Show Shirt, athletic shorts, and athletic shoes. (The official summer uniforms will be delivered and distributed before our first football game.)

March-A-Thon

Our biggest fundraiser of the year is officially underway! Students/parents should be signing up HERE to approach your targeted local businesses to sponsor you in this 5k-style fundraiser. Please limit your first try to 2 businesses, unless you are personally adding new businesses to this list. To personalize the letters for businesses and personal contacts go HERE to download the Word docs from the March-A-Thon packet. (All of these links can be reached from the home page of www.richardsonband.org.)

The March-A-Thon is a big part of why RHS has the lowest band fees in the district, and we want to keep it that way…but everyone must do their part to make it a success! We ask each student to reach a personal goal of $250 in pledges between businesses and personal contacts. All funds are due September 6.

Looking Ahead…

Next Monday, August 16, we have our last Summer Marching Camp rehearsal from 7:30-11:30am.

Next Tuesday, August 17 is the first day of school. We will not have rehearsal this morning.

The regular rehearsal schedule once school starts is outlined below. This schedule will begin on Wednesday, August 18:

Mondays: 5:00pm-7:00pm

Tuesdays: 7:00am-8:30am

Wednesdays: 7:00am-8:30am

Thursdays: 7:00am-8:30am

Fridays: 7:00am-8:30am
