Things To Be Thinking About…

1) Please see email sent from Mr. McKinney last week regarding the RISD Chamber Music Festival. Proof of purchase for both the solo/accompaniment and ensemble must be shown by November 20th for a performance grade.

2) Honors Level Band papers (for those who signed-up) are due by Dec. 13th. Students must attend two professional performances or other performances approved in advance by the director each semester in the student’s respective Honors area.  Documentation of these performances will include a program and a minimum two page critique of each performance.  The paper must be typed 12 point, Times New Roman font, double-spaced and must reflect the writing quality, content, and construction expected of an Honors student. Students must also complete a research paper each semester on a topic approved by the director. The paper must be a minimum of six pages typed 12 point, Times New Roman font, double spaced, and include a work-cited page.  A minimum of three sources is required.  The paper must reflect the writing quality, content, and construction expected of an Honors student.

Musical Information (if applicable)

Wind Symphony selected members – thank you again for your participation in this year’s musical production – Urinetown! The last couple of years we have had amazing performances and even been nominated for best pit orchestra by the Dallas Summer Musicals. More importantly, we have had so much fun!?
Please take a look at our rehearsal schedule once again. Musicals have A LOT OF VERY DIFFICULT and it takes much effort to put it all together. Notice that our rehearsal schedule includes MANY late nights, weekend rehearsals/performances, rehearsals on days when there is no school, and rehearsals during finals week. Rehearsals may be added, if needed, and taken away if things are going well. As we get closer to the performances, rehearsals may go past the times listed.

Students will receive 80+ hours of service! They will be allowed to work on homework or go practice on their own when they are not rehearsing a song at that moment.

REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE VOLUNTEERING FOR THIS ACTIVITY AND AS SUCH, YOU MUST COMMIT TO ALL REHEARSALS – NO EXCUSES. YOU ARE ALSO COMMITTING TO PRACTICING ALL THROUGHOUT THE THANKSGIVING/WINTER BREAK.

A STUDENT WHO IS NOT PREPARED ON THEIR MUSIC (AS WELL AS OTHER IN PARTS OF THE PROGRAM – ALL REGION, CONCERT MUSIC, SOLO AND ENSEMBLE, ETC), RUNS THE RISK OF BEING REMOVED.
