TWIGEB 08/28/17-09/02/17

Hello GEB,

Please see below for details this week (08/28/17-09/02/17).

Regular Rehearsals Continue
The regular rehearsal schedule of 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM (Monday) and 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM (Tuesday-Friday) continue. Please note a couple of important exceptions below:
Friday, Sept 1st: No rehearsal – Friday after a Thursday Game?Monday, Sept 4th: No rehearsal – Labor Day
Parents/students – the first of week of school was a trial week for our tardy/absence policy (as we got used to routines/schedule). Based on last week, 15 students would not be marching at our first game. While 93.02% of the students were on time with perfect attendance, 15 students sitting out would be detrimental to our marching show. Students – YOU MUST PRESENT AND ON TIME EVERY DAY! Our policy WILL start this week, which means students not on the GRID/STADIUM (Thursday) with their instrument, dot book and pencil by 5:30 PM or 7:00 AM (based on the day) will not be allowed to march at our first game. Below is the policy again for your convenience:

Tardy/Absence Policy
Rehearsals – if a student has 2 unexcused tardies or 1 unexcused absence leading up to game, the student will not be allowed to perform during the halftime show (but still will be required to attend the football game). This policy will restart after each game.

In accordance with RISD policy, all excused absences will be honored with no penalty. These include:

• Medical emergency or illness
• Death in the family
• Religious holiday
• Family emergency
• Medical or dental appointment

Students are to turn in medical/dental notes to Mr. Reyna. If a student has a medical/dental appointment in the morning, please try to schedule it on Monday mornings, if at all possible.

EMAIL MR. MARQUEZ (jesus.marquez@risd.org) REGARDING ANY TARDY/ABSENCE.

Also – some students have been getting to 1st period late; it is important that you change/put your instrument away quickly once rehearsal concludes and get to class by 9:00 AM everyday.

I want to thank all of you for a GREAT performance at the Richardson High School Family Picnic and those who helped with the Richardson West Junior High All-Region Clinic – OUTSTANDING JOB!

Things to fix this week:

Attend/be on time to marching rehearsals (15 students)
Energy at our Monday rehearsal, which did not occur last week
Loud counting at every rehearsal from ALL/exaggerate musical ideas
Get to 1st period by 9:00 AM

Have you completed ALL of your school assignments this week? If not, stop what you are doing and get it done! Remember NO ZEROS.

Random information:

Parents – please have your child start taking Vitamin C and drink orange juice/lemon water daily. Flu shots are also HIGHLY recommended.

Students – please remember to wash your hands and/or use hand sanitizer periodically.

With 215 students in the program, we want prevent the spread of any viruses or sicknesses as much as we can this season.

Show Pass-offs (Opener) Start Monday
Wind players – we will be passing off the pre-show/movement I starting Monday, August 28th. Please practice your music and visuals the way we have rehearsed it. Use the click track link below. You must pass it off with a 100 by Wednesday, August 30th.

Marching Band Item Distribution
Leadership – please be available after school on Tuesday, August 29th to help separate items and place them in bags. It should take about one hour.
All students will receive purchased items on Wednesday, August 30th.
Thursday Morning Rehearsal/Drill Team Information
Each week on game days, we will rehearse in the STADIUM. The Eaglettes will also join us on this day. This is especially important to note because ALL woodwinds, brass and drumline students must remember to bring their flip folder stuffed with this week’s drill team tune (which happens to be Counting Stars). Anyone who forget’s his/her flip folder and drill team tune at this rehearsal will automatically fail inspection for the week so make sure you remember!
