TWIGEB (09/23/19-09/28/19)

Hello GEB,

First of all, thank you to all who auditioned for the TMEA Jazz All-Region Band and represented Richardson High School in great fashion. In addition, congratulations to the following students who not only placed in the ensemble, but have advanced to AREA round:

Amin Norris – Alto Saxophone
Shea Nolen – Tenor Saxophone
Micah Pressler – Tenor Trombone
Jackson Franco – Bass Trombone

Best of luck as they audition for STATE on October 17th!

Furthermore, The Wind Symphony has been named a 2019 National Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors Project sponsored by the Foundation for Music Education! They also received the Commended Award in the New Music category. The Mark of Excellence had 320 entries from 38 states and Richardson High School was one of only 11 bands in the US to earn this distinction! The pieces entered were La Procession du Rocio and Blue Shades from last year’s UIL concert program.

Below you will find all of the details for this week (09/23/19-09/28/19). Remember to always check richardsonband.org for the most updated schedule.

Regular rehearsals continue; please note one change to our schedule. We will be changing our Tuesday morning rehearsal Oct. 8th to the afternoon (5:30 PM – 8:30 PM). This rehearsal will allow us to:

make up time for Monday, Oct. 7th with it being off (and any other weather issues we may encounter)
still attend tutoring during a morning time that week (in case it is the only time offered)
be able to be in the stadium
get ready for our 2nd marching contest and work on the things based on the feedback provided from our 1st contest.

Eligibility UIL Grade Report Released – 09/27/19

The UIL eligibility report will be released on Friday, September 27th. Parents and students – please check FOCUS everyday and make sure to be in constant communication with teachers. EVERYONE MUST PASS!
Friday Morning Rehearsal/Drill Team Information – 09/27/19
Each week on game days, we will rehearse in the STADIUM. The Eaglettes will also join us on this day. This is especially important to note because ALL woodwinds, brass and drumline students must remember to bring their flip folder stuffed with this week’s drill team tune (which happens to be Celebration again).
Pep Rally – 09/27/19

Once rehearsal concludes in the morning, students will meet in inspection lines in the band hall wearing their Water’s Edge Show Shirt (and their choice of school appropriate bottoms) along with their instrument, lyre and flip folder. We will warm-up together and then head to the large gym. Students will be blocked for 0 hour and 1st period.

Homecoming Game – Richardson vs WT White – 09/27/19
The Golden Eagle Band will proudly march down Belt Line to perform in one of Richardson High School’s grandest traditions, the Homecoming Parade. This event occurs at the end of the school day on Homecoming Friday. Students will wear the Summer Uniform (Water’s Edge show shirt, GEB black shorts, black ankle socks and tennis shoes).
All RHS students are released early on Friday to attend the Homecoming Parade. Band members will report to the Band Hall directly after school is released at 2:00 PM. We will quickly load the buses and head down to Heights Elementary in shifts. The parade begins at 4:00pm and runs down Belt Line Rd. from Heights Elementary back to RHS.
Directly following the parade, head to the Eagles Nest for dinner. Note that the turn around for this week’s game is REALLY quick due to the fact that we are performing at Pre-Game so if you do not have a Football Meal Plan, you will probably want to bring your food to school that morning as you likely will not have time to go out and get something.
Lastly, the way that the organizers handle the “entry fee” for the Homecoming Parade is fantastic! Rather than collecting money for the entry fee, each band member is expected to donate one pack of underwear/socks, which will be collected and donated to the Clothes Closet, a local charity serving the needs of the area. All donations are accepted but 4t-12/14 underwear and boys/girls socks (non adult) is preferred.
There will be a collection area in the front of the band hall for each student to turn in his/her package of underwear. The package should be marked with the student’s name so that we can account for who has already turned in their contribution. This is a great charity and I expect the band to be the single greatest contributor!
You will want to wear your mum/garter during the parade as we cannot wear them at the game with our marching uniforms.
Spiritwear – we can sell items in front of the school during the parade (if we chose) as long as we are not blocking the view of judges/spectators.

March-a-thon – 09/28/19

The annual March-a-thon Fundraiser is this Saturday, September 28th. Please see below for details:

You will arrive dressed in the March-a-thon T-Shirt (which will be distributed after school on Wednesday), GEB black athletic shorts, black ANKLE socks, and tennis shoes. You will NOT wear your marching shoes as they are not designed to take a 5K concrete beating. At inspection, you’ll be checked for the following:

? Correct uniform (see above)
? Flip folder
? Lyre
? Instrument (polished, working order, good reed, etc)

*bottled water will be provided throughout the day. You will NOT need to bring your GEB water bottles.

Inspection will be promptly at 8:15am. After inspection, we’ll line up in the parade block out by Dogwood and step off right at 9:00am. We will perform the first leg of the MAT by marching over to Waterview, then back to the high school for a short break (snacks provided). The second leg takes us over to Cottonwood and then back to the high school. The 5K march should last from 9:00am to roughly 12:00pm-12:30ish. After the March-a-thon, the top 10 earners will get to pie their director of choice to celebrate the end of another successful March-a-thon!

We anticipate that students will be ready for pickup by 12:45pm. We will keep everyone updated throughout the day via the GEB twitter feed. Follow us at @RHSGEB!
