Mark your calendars (9th-11th grade) – MANDATORY MEETING

In an effort to update students and parents on changes and expectations of the marching band activity, Mr. Bradford, Executive Director of Fine Arts for Richardson ISD, will be presenting two sessions in RISD.  Topics will include UIL expectations, history of the marching arts, RISD expectations for marching excellence, and Marching Band 101. 2 opportunities will be available for students and parents to attend:

Band Auditions Start 05/06/19

Please check your audition time on the whiteboard located in the front of the band hall. Below are audition dates for this week:

05/06/19 – Flute/Oboe

05/09/19 – Saxophone/Bassoon

Leadership Help Session #2 05/10/18

Our 2nd leadership clinic will be on Friday, May 10th from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM.

Location – Large Gym
Attire – Athletic clothing/shoes

Marching Percussion Clinic 05/09/19

On Thursday, May 9th, we will be having our last Marching Percussion Audition Clinic. Percussion and interested double reed students will meet in the band hall promptly at 5:30PM. The event will conclude at 8:30PM.  Please contact Mr. Schmuck (david.schmuck@risd.org) for more details.

Contests Host 05/10/19

We will be hosting our second Director’s Choice Festival this Friday, May 10th (7:30 AM – 7:30 PM).

Drum Major/Captain Interviews 05/11/19

If you are trying out for a color guard leadership position, drum major or captain, interviews will be held in the RHS band hall on Saturday, May 11th starting at 1:30 PM. Sign-up times will be available after school on Monday, May 6th.

Financial Aid

The window to apply for Golden Eagle Band financial aid is closing soon. You must click on the “submit” button at the end of the application for it to go through. You will receive a confirmation email that your application has been received and processed. A limited amount of financial aid is available to assist students who would otherwise be unable to participate in the Golden Eagle Band due to financial constraints.  Aid will be limited to assistance with either band operations fees OR private lessons fees. 

All applications must be submitted online by end of day Sunday, May 5. Late applications will not be accepted or considered.

Key Points To Remember When Applying:

  1. Parents/guardians and students have sections to complete in the application.
  2. Students are required to write an essay describing their goals as a member of the RHS Golden Eagle Band and why they are deserving of the RABC’s investment in them with financial aid.
  3. Parents are required to state why they are seeking financial aid and how it will assist their child.

Band Banquet

The “Circus” band banquet is quickly approaching. To RSVP, visit http://richardsonband.org/bandbanquet/ All parents and band students are encouraged to attend to celebrate our many successful moments throughout the year! (We request siblings wait until their turn to attend the banquet as a band member so it will be special to them).

Seniors – this is it! We want to make sure you are represented but you must complete the information needed.  You will need to RSVP or you will not have a meal, and your account needs to be at a zero balance to receive your free ticket. (Senior tickets are non-transferrable). Please fill out your senior information on the link below:

Senior Reminders

Please submit 2-3 pictures (baby, child, current) to Mr. Reyna (ryan.reyna@risd.org) for the band banquet slide show. Deadline to submit is May 10th.
Start working on your senior skit/senior speech. Deadline is May 17th to submit for approval.
Band fees must be paid in full by May 23rd. Graduation tickets will not be released unless fees are paid.

Banquet Details

Friday May 24th at Hyatt Regency Richardson – 7pm to 11pm.

Early Bird Tickets are $33 per person until midnight on May 15th. Payments can be made via Check or Money Order made out to RABC and placed in the band safe.

After May 15th, tickets will be $40 per person (credit card only). Final ticket sales are May 20th at 6:00 PM. Tickets will not be sold at the door so get your tickets for this event now.

Dress is semi-formal. Free photo opportunity at 6:30 PM for all. Seniors will enter the dining area at 6:45pm for seating. The doors will open at 7:00pm for general seating. Please make sure to sit in your student’s grade section.

Physicals Required for 2019-2020 Marching Season

Parents/students – per UIL rules, students will now be REQUIRED to do a physical for the 2019-2020 school year. All students must have a physical complete before our July Camp, but it would be preferred if it was completed before our June Camp. You can go through your primary care doctor; insurance should cover the physical OR RHS will be offering an opportunity to complete a physical for $15 on Tuesday, May 21st in the RHS Freshman Gym from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM. All students should have received a flyer at the GEB Orientation. If you did not, make sure to pick it on Monday.
