All State Band Success!!!

Good evening GEB parents and students,

I wanted to share some wonderful news with you. Of the students who advanced and auditioned at Area this past Saturday, three students have made the Texas 6A All-State Band! This is the highest honor that a student can achieve in music at the high school level. Less than 1% of students involved in band, orchestra or choir have a chance to be a part of this experience. Last time the Richardson GEB had an all-state student was 2011, and this year we have 3!!! They will be traveling to the Texas Music Educators Association Convention for the clinic and concert from February 10-13. Below are the names of the students; please see attached picture.

Nicholas Crothers – Trumpet (11th)
Alex Leo – Trumpet (10th)
Jonah Harmon – Percussion (12th)

Furthermore, Aissa Torres placed 1st Alternate (Alto Saxophone) and Austin Townsend placed 2nd Alternate (Tenor Saxophone)!

With that being said, the band directors and private lesson staff are very proud of all of the students’ work towards the all-region process and success. It truly does help the students become better players and performers! This year, we have now had the most 9th grade All-Region students, High School All-Region students, Jazz All-Region Students, Area Students and All-State students since I first arrived at RHS 5 years ago! Below is how the students did in comparison to the other 22 schools in the region:

9th Grade All-Region – 14 and 4 alternates (3rd in region 3)
High School All-Region – 26 (4th in region 3)
Jazz All-Region – 3 (T-3rd in region 3)
Area – 9 (T-2nd in region 3)
State – 3 and 2 alternates (1st in region 3!!!)

It’s a great day to be a part of the Golden Eagle Band! Thank you parents for your support!

Mr. Marquez
