Austin Von Kalow is proud to serve as Director of Percussion at Richardson High School. His duties this year include conducting the Jazz Band, coordinating percussion in the Richardson Learning Community and instructing the percussion section for the Golden Eagle Marching Band.

Mr. Von Kalow received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Texas Christian University where he studied with Dr. Brian West, Joey Carter, Jeffery Hode and Joseph Eckert. During his time at TCU, he was heavily involved in several performing ensembles including the Percussion Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band, Wind Symphony, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and the Horned Frog-Marching Band, where he served as the drumline captain in 2018. While representing TCU in these ensembles, Mr. Von Kalow received the outstanding soloist award at the Elmhurst Jazz Festival in Illinois in 2017 and was invited with perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland with the TCU Jazz ensemble in 2020. Mr. Von Kalow has also performed twice at the PASIC convention in 2015 and 2019 with the TCU Percussion Orchestra.

Originally from Richardson, Mr. Von Kalow was a graduate of Lake Highlands High School. Prior to joining the RHS band staff, Mr. Von Kalow served as the Assistant Percussion Director and Lesson Coordinator at Grapevine High School.
