Roland Muzquiz is Percussion Director for Richardson High School. Throughout his twenty-three years as Percussion Coordinator and Instructor for the Richardson High School attendance area he has emphasized the importance of developing strong mallet keyboard technique along with solid fundamental music theory.

Along with this position, Mr. Muzquiz also serves as Principal Percussionist with the Dallas Wind Symphony and the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Dallas Opera, the Plano Symphony Orchestra, the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Texas Chamber Orchestra, Ft. Worth-Dallas Ballet, Ballet Arlington, Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Texas Wind Symphony, The Turtle Creek Chorale, and the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra.

As a free-lance percussionist, Mr. Muzquiz has performed with artists such as Sharri Lewis, Robert Guillaume, Toni Tenille, Frank Sinatra, Jr. and Doc Severinsen. He is a member of two popular local groups: The Moondance Orchestra, which performs big band jazz and dance classics, and The Casino Band, a Latin jazz combo which performs both Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music. As a clinician, Mr. Muzquiz has served as Percussion Ensemble Conductor and Ethnic Percussion Specialist at the Stephen F. Austin Percussion Symposium for fifteen years. He is also on the Artist-In-Residence Roster and performs with the Classic Brass Quintet with Young Audiences of Greater Dallas.

Roland received his Bachelor’s Degree in Percussion Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied with John Beck. He has studied with Dean Witten, Leigh Stevens, Jim Dotson and Ernest Muzquiz. He has also studied Latin percussion techniques with Luis Conte and Frank Malabe, and credits Dave Ratajczak as his drum set guru.
