Mark McKinney

Assistant Director of Bands

Mark McKinney is proud to serve as Assistant Band Director at Richardson High School. His duties include conducting the Concert Band, assisting with the Golden Eagle Marching Band, assisting with the Jazz Band and teaching several beginner classes throughout the RHS Cluster.

Mr. McKinney joined the Richardson band staff in 2015. His ensembles have earned  superior ratings and “Best in Class” at Director’s Choice Festival. Prior to his appointment at Richardson High School, Mr. McKinney taught in Conroe ISD for six years where he worked specifically with beginner brass and percussion students. He also taught private lessons in Conroe ISD, Spring ISD, Willis ISD, and Magnolia ISD. Mr. McKinney attended Sam Houston State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2009 and studied trumpet under Randy Adams and Steve Warkentin. While at SHSU, he was a member of the Marching Band, Basketball Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Matthew McInturf. During his Junior and Senior year, Mr. McKinney served as Drum Major of the Bearkat Marching Band. In 2004, he toured the country and performed with the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, and with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps in 2007.

Mr. McKinney is a native of Richardson, TX and glad to be back in RISD. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association, He resides in the Richardson area with his wife, Carrie, and three children.
