About Us

Since its establishment in 1943, the Richardson High School Band has been one of the most storied and high achieving high school band programs in the country. The band is under the direction of Mr. Jesus Marquez,  Mr. David Schmuck, Mr. Ryan Reyna and Mr. Mark McKinney. The Percussion Department is under the direction of Mr. Roland Muzquiz. The Guard is under the direction of Ms. Ashley Maldonado. The Richardson Area Band Cluster includes Richardson West Jr. High School and Westwood Jr. High School.

The Richardson High School Band program is divided into several groups: Wind Symphony, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Drumline, Color Guard and Winter Guard. You can read more about these groups by selecting them from the menu.

In the Fall, all of the various parts of the Richardson Band combine to create the Richardson High School “Golden Eagle Marching Band”, which performs at all varsity football games, marching contests and various community events.

The Richardson High School Band program is securely grounded in a tradition of excellence in all we do. The Golden Eagle Marching Band is a regular UIL Sweepstakes Award winner and finalist at various area marching contests. The RHS Wind Symphony is a nationally recognized and award winning Concert Band having been twice been named AAAAA TMEA Honor Band in addition to its invitation as a featured performer at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic. Additionally, the Richardson High School Band has been awarded the coveted Sudler Flag of Honor by the Sousa Foundation and is listed in the Foundation’s Historic Roll of Honor, listing the nation’s top outstanding Concert Band’s dating back to 1920. The Richardson Band operates under the ideal: Excellence In Everything.
