Hello GEB,

It’s Richardson vs Pearce week!  Please see below for details this week (09/25/17-09/30/17):

First, congratulations to Ben Goldberg (piano), Anna Fitzgerald (alto sax), Alex Leo (trumpet) and Marcus Sykora (bass trombone) for placing in the TMEA Jazz All-Region Band. Ben and Marcus have advanced to AREA and will be taping for STATE on Thursday!

Furthermore, the Wind Symphony was named a 2017 Commended Winner in the Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors Project sponsored by the Foundation for Music Education! The Mark of Excellence had 278 entries from 38 different states and Richardson High School was named top 14 for their UIL recording of Give Us This Day and Melody Shop.

Regular Rehearsals Continue

We will continue to learn drill for Movement III on Monday! Remember to bring your dot book, pencil and have all of the music memorized. Here is the click track to the entire show (including Movement III) so you can practice:

I wanted to remind you of some rehearsal exceptions (that has been on the calendar since May):
Friday, September 30th – No Marching Rehearsal
Friday, October 6th: Rehearsal from 9:00am – 12:00pm. There is no school on this day but there is a rehearsal with a clinician in the morning and a game that evening. Game Meal Plan will be provided just a little earlier than usual (3:45pm). After loading instruments, students will have a break from 12:30pm – 3:45pm.
Our first marching competition (Little Elm Classic on the Lake) will be the following day on Saturday, October 7th!
Monday, October 9th – No Marching Rehearsal

Westwood JH Football Game Performance Tuesday

Grade Report Released Friday

Parents/students – Please log into FOCUS. If there are any classes you are currently failing or  are close to failing, you MUST turn in any missing assignments and go to tutoring during lunch/after school all of this week as well as Monday and Friday morning. You MUST be passing ALL of your classes by THIS Friday, September 29th to be eligible!

Thursday Morning Rehearsal/Drill Team Information

As a reminder on game days, we will rehearse in the STADIUM. ALL woodwinds, brass and drumline students must bring their flip folder stuffed with this week’s drill team tune (Any Way You Want It again). Anyone who forgets his/her flip folder and drill team tune at this rehearsal will automatically fail inspection for the week, so make sure you remember!

Thursday Pep Rally

Once rehearsal concludes in the morning, students will meet in inspection lines in the band hall wearing their Purple Dri-fit (and their choice of bottoms) along with their instrument, lyre and flip folder. We will warm-up together and then head to the large gym. Students will be blocked for 1st period.

RHS vs Pearce (HOME) 09/28/17

STUDENTS – IT’S GAME DAY! MAKE SURE TO WEAR YOUR GOLDEN EAGLE BAND SPIRIT ATTIRE!

The second HOME football game of the year is coming up this Thursday night! As always, full details can be found on the Official Band Calendar at www.richardsonband.org.

When the bell rings to release school, dinner will be served in the Eagles Nest for those who signed up for the meal plan. Please note that this is only for those who signed up for the Football Game meal plan. We will be wearing the FULL UNIFORM this week.

If you ordered an Under Armor shirt, you will be receiving it in class this week.

A student will fail inspection if he/she:

? shows up late
? wears the wrong attire
? is missing uniform items
? is missing instrument (and parts of instrument)
? has a unclean and not fully functioning working instrument
? is missing a lyre/flip folder
? is lacking a filled water bottle (water only)
? wears make-up/nail polish
? wears jewelry (religious affiliation allowed)
? has an unnatural hair color (blue, green, etc.)
? has the incorrect “show hair”
? is not clean-shaven (boys)
? talks

After the game, everyone will hang their uniform correctly and turn in their shoes. The after party will hosted by the the junior class will take place in the Eagles Nest.

Parents – we will need MANY volunteers for the football game. Mrs. Forssell will be sending out information so be on the look out and sign-up!
