Don’t forget that we have our second pep-rally of the year this Friday morning. Remember that everyone must wear their When You Wish T-Shirt (no polos, no previous year’s shirts). You’ll need your flip folder/lyres as well.

Senior Night Specifics

This section really only pertains to senior parents/students. Everyone else can skip ahead.

The time is almost here! Each year, we gather together on the final home game of the season to pay tribute and express our appreciation to the Senior Class. This year’s senior night will be held next Friday at the Berkner game. There will be three portions to the Senior Night recognitions: Pre-Game, Pep-Rally & Halftime.  Please see the information below for details about each.

Please note: Any senior participating must be academically eligible to do so as this event occurs at a UIL football game.

To be done immediately:

The first step to all of this is for you to go to:

and fill out the form. Please note the following regarding the form as we have run into issues in the past:

  1. Submit the form only once. Students and parents should confirm with each other what you want to be announced before you submit.
  2. If you submit the form a second time, the data will be ignored. If you must change your information after you have (escort has changed, etc), you need to email Mr. Linley directly ( about the no later than Thursday, Oct 23.
  3. In order to guarantee that your information will be read at the game, you must have your web form submission submitted by Wednesday, October 22nd at 5pm. That’s when Mr. Linley will compile all the data to create the script. Any submissions after that point are not guaranteed to be read at the game.

As we have done the last several years, all organizations will recognize its Seniors in the same manner at the Pre-Game ceremony.

Each Senior band member, accompanied by parents (or guardians) will be recognized at Pre-Game. Seniors and parents will line up at the south end zone at 6:55pm. The presentation will start at 7:00pm. All Band Seniors and parents will line up in alphabetical order (by last name) and prepare to be escorted down the field. Parents and Senior will walk together down the field, meet at the 50 and then walk between the Eaglettes and Cheerleaders before lining up on the track. After everyone from all of the organizations have been recognized, seniors will be dismissed to join the band in the stands.

It has been requested that band parents wear a Band T-Shirt, polo or some other kind of GEB gear.

As is tradition, there will be a Senior Parent portion of the Pep-Rally this Friday where you will have the opportunity to “perform” proudly before the RHS Community. Information regarding this event was sent out in a separate email by our Senior Rep. Please contact her directly with any pep-rally related questions. Unlike the Pre-Game ceremony, the Pep-Rally portion is completely optional but due to the comedy it brings us all, highly encouraged.

Due to Area being the next day, the directors will choose which portion of the show is marched this year. Before the start of the show, seniors will come to the front of the field to meet the drum majors for the Senior Salute.

The announcement of the Band Beau and Sweetheart will occur at halftime as well.

Post Game:

After the game, we will play the fight song and Alma Mater and do the full dismissal, after which you will be released to the field to participate in the Senior Walk. The Senior Walk takes place roughly 5-10 minutes after the completion of the game and you will no problem getting to the field from the stands in time.

We’re all looking forward to another great Senior Night!

UIL Area Marching Contest

Our next and potentially final contest of the season is THIS Saturday, October 25th at Mesquite Memorial ISD Stadium. Below is ALL the information you’ll need for the day.

9:45am: Rehearsal at Eagle Stadium
11:00am: Lunch/Get Changed/Load Trucks
12:00pm: Inspection/Load buses
12:15pm: Depart
1:00pm: Check in at Mesquite Memorial
1:55pm: Warm Up
2:45pm: Prelims Performance
5:15pm: Finals Announcement

The UIL Area Marching Invitational is Prelims/Finals format contest. This means that, after all the bands march once in Prelims, they will select the top scoring 10 bands to perform again in Finals. The finalists perform in random order. This means: 1) We won’t know if we are performing in finals until 5:15pm and 2) If we are performing in finals, we won’t know what time we perform until 5:45pm or so. We’ll send out a twitter message with the plans for the evening once we know the prelims results. Regardless of whether or not we make finals, since we came home last weekend, we will stay and watch for the evening.

7:30pm: Finals Begin
10:15pm: Final Results
11:30pm: Expected ETA at RHS. Brief meeting then dismissal.

Parent Info

If you are a parent who is not chaperoning/helping on the field, we NEED you in the stands supporting the band. The location of the contest is:

Mesquite Memorial Stadium
2411 W. Scyene Rd.
Mesquite, TX 75149

Here’s how this works: when the band enters the field and the announcer calls our name, we need a fleet of parents in the stands cheering and going NUTS for the kids. This is all part of the competition! It sends a message to the judges that… “hey, you really need to pay attention to this band!” While we have many parents already traveling with the band as volunteers, they will be down on the field helping with equipment. Come out and see what your kids have been toiling away for because trust me, the football games have just been a preview of the contest show.

Parking is free. Admission to the contest is $5.00 and that will cover entrance to both Prelims and Finals. Student performers do not need to pay to enter. Pre-School age children 6 and under are free. For our volunteers, UIL provides a set  number of total volunteer passes. This means that you should be prepared to pay the $5.00 entry fee in case we don’t get enough.

Student Info

You are going to need to bring a good number of items with you on Saturday. Pay careful attention as we’ll have several different “outfits” for the day.

When you arrive in the morning, you’ll need to be wearing:

  • UnderArmor Shirt (WYW T-shirt over the UA shirt)
    • When You Wish T-Shirt
    • Athletic shorts (for under your uniform bibbers/jeans)
    • Marching Shoes
    • Long black socks

You’ll need to bring your duffle bag/and or a backpack or bag of some kind. Inside your bag, you’ll need our “stands uniform” which will be:

• Jeans
• Tennis shoes

You’ll come and drop your items off in the band hall, head to the uniform racks and put on your uniform pants, grab your shako and a plume. When the whistle blows, at 9:45am on the stadium field, you’ll be wearing:

• UnderArmor Shirt
• WYW T-Shirt (optional)
• Bibbers
• Marching shoes
• Long back socks
• Band shako with plume

After rehearsal, we’ll return the plumes, get changed out of our bibbers and hang up our uniforms on the racks in the band hall, grab our shako boxes off the racks and put them in your inspection lines, then head to the Cafeteria for lunch. Inspection is at 12:00pm – you’ll have 1 hour from rehearsal to inspection. At inspection, we’ll be dressed in/have with you:

  • UnderArmor Shirt (WYW T-Shirt optional)
    • Athletic Shorts
    • Marching Shoes/Long Black Socks
    • Shako Box w/gloves and gauntlets inside
    • Instrument in case (for winds that don’t go on truck)
    • Duffle/Personal Bag (with your stands uniform inside: jeans and tennis shoes)

At 12:15pm, we’ll load buses and head to Mesquite. Upon our arrival, you’ll get all the instructions you’ll need.

After our prelims performance, we will head back to the trucks, reload our equipment, rack our uniforms, and get changed into the stands uniform (see below) and head into the stands to watch the remainder of prelims.

Stands Uniform
When You Wish T-Shirt
• Jeans
• Tennis Shoes

Regardless of whether or not we place in finals, we’ll stay for the evening’s performances. Everyone will receive dinner via the contest meal plan between prelims and finals. You may want to bring additional money for souvenirs and/or concession stand goodies.

Homecoming Week (next week)

Next week is homecoming week which brings with it LOTS of important details for the band members.

First of all, next week is a standard rehearsal week for us. We’ll rehearse each morning next week to put the finishing touches on our marching show before we perform it in its entirety one final time at Homecoming. After that performance, we’ll just perform one movement each week.

We’ll have a Homecoming Pep-Rally on Friday, October 31st so plan ahead with your attire/materials.

Homecoming Parade:

Secondly, we will marching in the Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 31st. We’ll have more detailed information about the Homecoming activities and parade in next week’s TWIGEB, but here’s some important info you’ll need two week’s notice on. The organizers of the parade came up with a great idea a few years ago – rather than charging a traditional entry fee to the parade, they are using this as an opportunity to help our community. Thus, the “entry fee” is that each member of all participating organizations must donate one pack of underwear which will be donated to the Richardson Clothes Closet.

So… as we’ve done in years past, we’re starting the process of collecting underwear for the Homecoming Parade. Each band member should bring one pack of new underwear (any size, any gender) to be donated. Please mark your name in tape or sticky note on the package so we can be sure to give you credit as we’ll be keeping track of the donations. Donations will be turned into the “Gently Used Items” box in front of Ms. Maldonado’s office and will be accepted until Thursday, October 30th.

Pre-Game Performance:

As is standard for homecoming, we will be performing our contest show in Pre-Game so next week’s schedule will be a little different. Again, we’ll give you more specifics next week, but if you have family or folks coming to watch the final performance of the show, they’ll need to be in the stands by 7:05pm.

So… what’s next?

Excellent question! After Area UIL this Saturday, we have one more full week of marching band before we begin the transition from Marching Season into Concert Season. Here’s what that looks like:

  • Next week (Homecoming week): We will rehearse M-F as usual.
  • Starting the following week (11/3-11/7), we will only have marching rehearsals on Friday mornings for the rest of the football season. This will continue through any potential playoffs.
  • If you are in Wind Symphony, we will start having 8:20am rehearsal starts on Monday (11/3). We’ll rehearse 8:20a-9:50a M-Th until football season ends.
  • For all winds, we will begin sectionals starting the week of 11/3. Sectionals occur once a week either before of after school at a schedule agreed upon between the section and the director. This is to help prepare us for the upcoming Winter Concert and All Region Band auditions.
  • The next big event after the conclusion of Marching Season is the 9th Grade All Region Band Auditions on Saturday, November 15th. We’ll have more info about that event as it nears.

Corpus Christi Trip

Keep watching for a separate email mid-week regarding all the Spring Trip details. It’s too much material to lump in with all of the TWIGEB stuff.

So proud of you and your performances last week! Thank you for all you hard work. And specifically, to the parent chaperones, helpers, Rhythm Movers, Meal Plan folks and ALL the parents who help us out – THANK YOU!!!! Your kids appreciate you far more than you’ll ever know.
