RHS Band Family,

Here is this week’s edition of the weekly newsletter TWIGEB (This Week In the Golden Eagle Band)! It’s titled 1.4 for the 1st Six Weeks, 4th Week

Mvt 2 Coordinates/Click Tracks

Files for Mvt 3 are now available for download via Charms. Mvt 2 Pass-offs will start next week. Coordinates are also posted to Charms should you lose yours and need another copy.

RHS vs… No one?

Each year during the football season we get one bi-week where there isn’t a game. So nope… it’s not a misprint – there is NO GAME this Friday. We’ll see everyone again next week when the Eagles take on Pearce.

Meet the Teacher/Open House

Meet the teacher/Open House is next tomorrow night at RHS. The evening kicks off with a PTA meeting starting at 6:00pm. Then at 7pm, you’ll be ushered through your student’s school day, following their bell schedule. This means, that you’ll come and visit us in the band hall during the designated period of the day that your student has band.

Wind Symphony – 1st Period (Winds in Band Hall, Perc in Perc Room)
Symphonic Winds – 1st Period (Orchestra room)
Guard – 2nd Period (Band Hall)
Symphonic Band – 3rd Period (Band Hall)
Concert Band – 4th Period (Band Hall)

Sprit Night at Soulman’s BBQ

We’re having our first GEB Spirit Night of the year at Soulman’s BBQ on Wednesday, September 24th! Just swing by Soulman’s (SE corner of  Plano Rd & Campbell) for dinner anytime between 5-9p and tell them you’re “with the band” and Soulman’s will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the Golden Eagle Band. An easy and tasty fundraiser!

The March-a-thon is quickly approaching – how is your fundraising coming? Just a reminder to be working on collecting your $200+ in pledges. The BEST addition for this year’s MAT is definitely the “party limo” for the top 20 earners. Want to ride in the limo for a portion of the march? Get out there and work hard as the top earners are already over $1000!

Don’t forget that the top “per-capita” earning section will also get to select a stands tune to add to our Friday night repertoire.

Details about the March-a-thon itself will be coming out in next week’s TWIGEB, but here is some basic information:

Inspection: 8:30am
March Begins: 9:00am
Expected End: 12:30pm
Lunch: 1:00pm

Summer Uniform: black band shorts, MAT T-Shirt, tennis shoes, athletic socks, black belt. Note that MAT T-Shirts have not yet been distributed. You will receive yours in class during the MAT week.

UIL Stadium Rehearsal

Mark your calendars! Just a friendly reminder about the most important marching rehearsal of the year: our Tuesday, Oct 13 Stadium Rehearsal 5-9pm – note that there is no school this day but we are still rehearsing with UIL two days away.

Academic Eligibility

There are three weeks left in the first six weeks. As we approach the end of the first grading period, it seems a good time for a quick reminder on how grades affect eligibility for band.

The short version is this – pass ALL of your classes and you have nothing to worry about. You are the best and the brightest at RHS and it is our expectation that you’re acting as such in your classes. This means you shouldn’t be in jeopardy of failing a class.

Here’s the long version – if you fail a class, you fall into one of two situations:

Situation #1: You fail a UIL Exempt Class. Attached to this email is a list of classes which are not affected by the TEA “no pass/no play” rule. If you fail one of these classes, it does not affect your eligibility status with band or extracurriculars. That being said, failing any class is not okay and YOU NEED TO GET YOUR GRADES UP. WE’LL “SUPPORT” YOU IN THAT EFFORT RIGOROUSLY.

Situation #2: You fail a non-exempt/regular class. If you fail a class which is not listed on the attached list of classes, you will be academically ineligible to participate in any of the extracurricular elements (see below) of band until you regain your eligibility. You can only regain your eligibility in two ways. 1) By passing ALL of your non-exempt classes at the 3 week progress report or 2) By passing ALL of your non-exempt classes at the next 6 week grading period. If you meet criteria number 1, you can regain your eligibility after the 4th week (there is a one week “grace period” after the 3rd week progress report). If you don’t regain at the 3 week point, you have to wait until the next report card.

The elements of band effected by eligibility are: contests, parades and football games. Any in-eligible student may not participate with the band at any of these events. Ineligible students will still attend: M-F rehearsals, concerts, band classes.

Please note – we are watching eligibility closely and will begin swapping people in/out of contest spots based on how grades are looking in classes. If it looks like you may not pass, there is a high likelihood that you will be reassigned out of your contest spot in order to give the other person time to learn the spot before contest.

Let’s have another FANTASTIC show NEXT week!
