Here’s this week’s edition of This Week in the Golden Eagle Band!

UIL Region 3 UIL Marching Contest

Congratulations to the Golden Eagle Band Members for ending the 2013 competitive season with a bang! On October 23, the GEB traveled to Mesquite Memorial Stadium to participate in the UIL Region 3 Marching Contest. After a long day of rehearsing and baking in the sun, the band had quite a strong performance and earned a 1st Division “Superior” Rating, the contest’s highest ranking! We are so proud of the students and all that they have achieved this marching season!

  • Best in Class – Desoto
  • Most Outstanding Marching – Desoto
  • Most Outstanding Winds – Desoto
  • Most Outstanding Guard – Desoto
  • Most Outstanding General Effect – Desoto
  • 3rd Place Finalist – Desoto
  • 1st Division Superior Rating – UIL

Online Calendar

Now that we are starting to split into our individual groups (Percussion, Winterguard, Wind Symphony, Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, etc), the Online Calendar becomes more important than ever! If we were to list every single event on one calendar, it would be far too overwhelming to be of any use! Therefore, here’s a brief reminder on how to use the online calendar at

  1. Go to
  2. Mouse over “Events” in the main menu
  3. Select “Official Band Calendar” from the drop down menu
  4.  Next, mouse over the “Categories” button and make sure that all the groups in which your student plays are selected. For instance, if you are a percussionist who plays in Symphonic Winds and Jazz Band, you’d want to make sure that Concert Season Percussion, Symphonic Winds and Jazz Band were all selected. Note: make sure that you dont accidentally unselect calendars #1 and #2. Those should ALWAYS stay selected.
  5. Generally, unless you clear your browser settings (or are using privacy mode), the calendar will remember your settings when you come back to the calendar later. If you come back later and don’t see many items listed, you’ll want to double check that your groups are still selected.

Sectionals have started in earnest! Check out the online calendar at to make sure you know when your band’s sectionals are meeting!
