2013 Concerto Competition

Parents and students,

Richardson High School is proudly to present the 7th annual Richardson Area Howard Dunn Concerto Competition! This is an event that gives students another opportunity to perform a solo which exhibits both their musicianship and training. So band, if you are proud of the work that you’ve put into your solo and would like to compete against your high school friends, then here is your chance.

Preliminary performances will take place on Monday, February 25th in the RHS Orchestra Hall starting at 6:00pm. Warm-up area will be in the Band Hall. A schedule will be emailed out and posted in the band hall this weekend.

Finals performance will take place in the RHS Black Box Theatre on Thursday, March 7th. The start time will be communicated after the prelims are completed.

Students will be divided into one of three divisions: 7th/8th grade, 9th/10th grade, or 11th/12th grade. Three winners from each division will receive a band department scholarship. There must be a minimum of three entries for each of the high school divisions, otherwise, there will only be one division of 9th-12th grade. Students can apply online (www.richardsonband.org) under forms and downloads. Deadline for the application is Friday, February 22nd by 5PM. So don’t delay!

Prizes

1st place- $ 100.00
2nd place- $ 75.00
3rd place- $ 50.00

In addition, students will receive trophies and/or certificates to show off their accomplishment.

Eligibility and Rules

Entrants must have performed at the RISD Chamber Music Festival and received a 1st division, or by director permission.
Entrants must supply their own accompanist for the Finals Competition on March 7th. However, for prelims, contestants will perform their solo unaccompanied.
Entrants may perform a minimum of one movement of a multi-movement work or a short concert piece.
Entrants must supply three (5) copies of the solo work to me for the judges by Monday, February 25th by the end of the school day.
Performance time should not exceed eight (8) minutes.
