RHS Band welcomes two new directors!

The RHS Band is proud to announce the appointment of two new directors who will be joining the staff this year.

Filling the role of Associate Director will be Dr. Andrew Tucker. Dr. Tucker will serve as the conductor of the Symphonic Winds, lead the RHS Jazz Band, assist with the Golden Eagle Marching Band and coordinate brass pedagogy for the RHS Band Area.

Dr. Tucker graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy, then did undergraduate work at the University of Kansas, before earning his Bachelor’s degree at the University of North Texas. At Indiana University, he completed his Master’s degree in Tuba Performance with a minor in Wind Conducting. He completed his Doctorate of Musical Arts at Indiana University in Brass Pedagogy with minors in Music Education and Wind Conducting. You can learn more about Dr. Tucker by clicking here.

Filling the role of Assistant Director will be Mr. David Schmuck. Mr. Schmuck will serve as the conductor of the Concert Band and primary director for the RHS Drumline, in addition to teaching several beginning/intermediate instrumental classes throughout the RHS Band Area.

Mr. Schmuck has worked as a percussion instructor, private teacher, music arranger, clinician, and adjudicator. Following several successful seasons performing with the Cavaliers D&BC, he went on to join the staff from 2001 to 2003 as Tenor Technician and worked with the percussion sections for the University of Illinois Marching Illini and the Northern Illinois University Marching Huskies. Mr. Schmuck has spent the past 12 years teaching percussion at Prospect High School in Mt. Prospect, IL and has consulted many marching programs in the Chicago area. Mr. Schmuck is a summa cum laude graduate of VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL where he received his Bachelor of Music Education in 2011.
