Jesus Marquez is thrilled to be joining Richardson High School an Associate Director of Bands. Mr. Marquez duties include assisting in each of the Concert Bands, working with the Marching Band, teaching AP Music Theory in addition to teaching beginner band classes at MST Elementary, Carolyn Buckhair Elementary.

Mr. Marquez is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in wind conducting at the University of Houston, where he served as a graduate assistant for the University Bands under the direction of David Bertman. Prior to his appointment at UH, he student taught at L.D Bell High School and Hurst Junior High with cooperating teachers Van Matthews, John Alstrin, and Monica Dominguez.

Mr. Marquez holds a Bachelor’s degree in music education from Texas Christian University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He also received an Associate’s degree in the field of music from Richland College. During his time at TCU, he served as Drum Major and Vice President for the “Horned Frog” Marching Band and conducted in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl. A year later after graduating, he was invited back as a special guest to perform with the TCU band in the 2011 Rose Bowl. Mr. Marquez was the principal bass clarinet player for both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra at TCU. During this time, he also studied conducting with Bobby Francis and was the only undergrad student to conduct the ensembles in a live performance.

A native of RISD, Mr. Marquez was also the Head Drum Major of the “Wildcat” Marching Band at Lake Highlands High School under the direction of mentor, Marion West. Mr. Marquez has been a marching tech, private lesson instructor and substitute teacher in H.E.B, Irving, Fort Worth and Dallas.

His professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Mu Phi Epsilon and Kappa Delta Pi.
